Konstantin Preslavsky University of Shumen Joins the Magna Charta Universitatum 2020 Community

On 13 November 2025, the Rector of Konstantin Preslavsky University of Shumen, Prof. Nataliya Vitanova, Dr. Habil, officially signed the university’s accession to the global community of more than 1,000 universities worldwide committed to upholding the principles of the Magna Charta Universitatum 2020 (MCU 2020), this becoming the eighth higher education institution from Bulgaria to join the global Magna Charta family.
The signing ceremony took place in the chapel of King’s College London as part of the anniversary conference of the Magna Charta Universitatum, held
from 11 to 13 November 2025.
By signing the Magna Charta Universitatum 2020, Konstantin Preslavsky University of Shumen reaffirms its commitment to the core values that underpin academic excellence and societal progress: academic freedom, institutional autonomy, research, internationalization, equality, and service to society. These principles remain especially vital in the context of today’s global challenges.
Through its membership, the University joins a respected international network of institutions working together to enhance higher education worldwide. This affiliation provides access to joint initiatives, research partnerships, conferences, webinars, and student competitions, all aimed at advancing and promoting the shared principles of the Magna Charta of Universities.
