Erasmus+ is an EU program in the fields of education, training, youth and sport for the period 2014-2020. Erasmus + has been developed to support the efforts of countries participating in the Program (program countries) to internationalize education and the establishment of a common educational area, the promotion of lifelong learning through the support of formal, non-formal and independent learning in all areas of education, training and working with the youth. In addition, the program extends opportunities for cooperation and mobility with program partner countries, particularly in the areas of higher education and working with the youth.

   The Erasmus+ program contributes to the following objectives:

   The University of Shumen has the potential to participate in the following structural components of the Erasmus+ in the field of higher education:

   Key Action 1: Mobility of Individuals

This key action provides support for:

  • mobility of students (and PhD students) and staff members: enables students and PhD students to undergo part-time studies or gain professional experience in another country; Mobility of university lecturers for teaching or training at foreign educational institutions; for employees of the educational institution wishing to undergo training and to get acquainted with good practices in foreign institutions ;
  • „Erasmus Mundus“ Joint Masters Courses: Integrated high-level international training programs run by consortia of higher education institutions that award full scholarships to acquire degrees to the best students from all over the world who are trained in master programs;
  • Erasmus + Masters loans: students in higher education institutions from Program Countries may apply for a program-guaranteed loan to go abroad to obtain a Master’s degree. Students should contact national banks or student loan agencies involved in the scheme.


   Key Action 2: Cooperation for Innovation and Exchange of Good Practices

This key action provides support for:

  • international strategic partnerships aimed at developing initiatives relating to one or more areas of education, training and youth. Promoting innovations, the exchange of experience and know-how between different types of organizations involved in the fields of education, training and youth, or other relevant areas. Support shall also be provided for mobility activities so long as these activities contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the projects;
  • alliances of knowledge between higher education institutions and enterprises aimed at promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, creativity, employability, knowledge exchange and/or multidisciplinary teaching and learning;
  • sector skill alliances supporting the development and delivery of joint curricula, teaching, learning programs and methods in the field of vocational education using data on trends in individual economic sectors and the skills needed for successful realization in one or more professional fields;
  • capacity building projects supporting cooperation with partner countries in higher education and youth. Capacity building projects are designed to support the process of modernization and internationalization of organizations/institutions and systems. Certain types of capacity building projects support mobility activities in so far as these activities contribute to achieving the objectives of the project;
  • support platforms such as eTwinning, School Education Portal, European Platform for Adult Learning (EPALE) and European Youth Portal providing virtual collaborative spaces, databases containing information about opportunities, communities of practitioners and other online services provided to educators, instructors and practitioners in the field of school education and adult education, as well as for young people, volunteers and youth workers from across Europe and other regions.
